Via Boing Boing is a story about why you should never ever EVER steal a laptop from a professor at Berkeley. Here's a link to a zipped MP3 of the story. It's scary. Scared the poop out of me. I am so glad I'm not the guy who stole the laptop.

the professor is bluffing, 100%. Best thing for the kid to do is wipe the laptop down, "allow" the laptop to be stolen by some random stranger (leave it on a park bench, whatever), and keep quiet.

And I can't imagine why the professor, given the information he says he has about the thief, and the government help he claims to have, would want to announce to everyone that he is not to be trusted with sensitive materials.

Maybe I'm missing something, but this sounds like he's bluffing.

Or, he is bluffing, but hopes that it will scare the shit out of the punk who stole it. Seriously. It's quite a display of bravado, to me.
