First, I saw the coolest thing on metafilter yesterday. It's called a phonoharp, and you can see it and many other instruments like it here
. Essentially, this guy, Kitundu, started rigging turntables to sit in the body of harps and harplike instruments. The needle acts as a pickup. It's very inspiring. I may have to build one of these. With a proper selection
of locked groove records
, and perhaps some effects pedals, you could make some incredibly evocative music. Of course, a simple 4 second sampler and some effects sends and returns would also be cool to add. That way you could sample a beat as it's playing, mangle it in outboard effects, then scratch with the record and play the harp at the same time.
