First, I saw the coolest thing on metafilter yesterday. It's called a phonoharp, and you can see it and many other instruments like it
here. Essentially, this guy, Kitundu, started rigging turntables to sit in the body of harps and harplike instruments. The needle acts as a pickup. It's very inspiring. I may have to build one of these. With a proper
selection of
locked groove records, and perhaps some effects pedals, you could make some incredibly evocative music. Of course, a simple 4 second sampler and some effects sends and returns would also be cool to add. That way you could sample a beat as it's playing, mangle it in outboard effects, then scratch with the record and play the harp at the same time.
