I was talking to my friend Wes this evening, over at my friend Nick's house about Gnarls Barkley's song Crazy. Wes has never heard of Gnarls Barkley. The reason I brought it up is that Wes is the one person I know who might be able to appreciate someone sampling an Ennio Morricone soundtrack (and yet it sounds completely UNLIKE anything related to a spaghetti western). So here's the Wikipedia entry on Gnarls Barkley (which is made up of two individuals, Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse, (who did the wonderful Grey Album) not Skee-Lo like I was thinking [I'm not really all that much into hippity-hop, compared to some of my friends, so forgive me].) There's a video link at the bottom. I highly suggest you watch it. It's infectious.

Also, not sure if I've linked this before, but you should also check out Aural Prostitution, particularlyMass Distraction Sessions vol. 11 Black Music. It's particularly good if you like a certain kind of jazz, the Ahmad Jamal, Ornette Coleman, Pharoah Sanders, Rahsaan Roland Kirk kind of jazz. It's a really good mix.

Want to hear something cool? Go here, and download DJ /rupture's gold teeth thief mix. The part B mix is an interesting mix of 'world music', hip hop and downtempo beats, jungle, IDMish stuff. It's very innovative, and very similar to the kind of world roaming hyperinternational beat mixing I would be doing if I were better at it. He apparently did it on three turntables, which is a feat in and of itself. It's very very cool. Haven't listened to the part A mix yet. He has a blog here, by the way.

Totally missed the second Cloudwave event the other night, since I was as sick as a dog. Just now really recovering. I was really bummed about it, because I had a really interesting set to play, involving a William Yeats spoken word piece, and a Charlie Manson sample. Kind of an apocalyptic montage. I've been really lax about finishing any real tunes lately though. Hopefully I'll have some finished soon.

If anyone tells you that puking for 6 or 7 hours straight is fun, then they are a liar.

Ugh.

I was quite sick night before last. Which has seemed to turn into a fever and weak and sore muscles from all the puking.

The good new is I finally ate some toast.
