Ok, apparently Pity Sing has 2 shows coming up. One is on the 21st, and the other is on the 26th. They are both at the Firebird, which used to be Clunk Music Hall. Go see them if you like good music.

I hate it when people go on about Starbucks. I mean, come on, it's the McDonalds of coffee. You should go to smaller, local coffeehouses, instead. Like Arsagas, if you live in the Fayetteville area.

Collaboratory is one of the coolest community blogs ever. And it's on blogspot! They have some very interesting links and commentaries.
This scares the crap out of me. Apparently, the Luddites are targeting the Transhumanist movement. This is the dumbest and most dangerous thing that I've ever heard, from the species point of view.
If we meet other intelligent species in the future, and we will, you can bet that they have probably had a long long history of optimizing their genetic code. The question is, are we going to be their bitch? Some species are better adapted for certain environments. And they might have engineered themselves to be better adapted to our environment than we are.
We can make ourselves better without turning into Gattaca or Nazi Germany. I think it's possible. I don't think we'll ultimately have any choice in the matter. Or the choices may be taken out of our hands, by superior slimy tentacles.
Ultimately, I'm for humanity. And any sane and rational human being would be too. I was born with a genetic birth defect, and the possibility that genetic therapy could keep my descendents from inheriting that birth defect is a great comfort to me. Luddites be damned.

Also, Pity Sing, this cool band that some friends of mine have, are going to be playing soon at the Firebird, or whatever, what used to be Clunk. I think on the night of the 28th, but I'll double check on that. They unfortunately don't have a website, but the Paperhearts do, and they'll also be playing. Hopefully Pity Sing will have a website soon, too.
Pity Sing's sound is kind of alt-country, I guess, if I had to pigeon hole it. But they're super good. Really. If you see ANY local band, see them.

So, my friend Scott Brock, from work, has a cool event coming up this Saturday. He and his roomies are having an art show. They're gonna have punch, and a band is going to play, and there's going to be some stand-up comedy. It's going to start around 8 or 9ish at night, and the address is 527 Wilson. This is where it is.
